Disney (handicap experience)

I recently took a trip to Disney for the first time with a great friend that is Wheelchair bound. I was not sure how this trip would go but I knew that with Disney it would turn out fantastic somehow!!

We started our trip out by stopping by the guest service office at the first park and explaining that he is in a wheelchair and what his needs were and they gave us the Disability pass where he would have to wait minimal for lines. So, how this works is they basically link all the Magic bands in the party to the person with the disability up to a total of 6. You then go to the ride that you want to ride and scan your magic band and they will tell you if it is busy to come back in say 20 min? or it may be slow and they will tell you to go on through the fast pass line. This worked out so great for him!!

The next part is what amazed me! He can transfer from the chair when needed which we were doing at first but then he was getting tired and we asked if he could stay in and that is when we found out they had all the special spots on the ride for people in wheelchairs. It was so cool and he felt special! When we went on the Nemo ride they had a special large shell just for him! He was huge and had a ramp and they rolled him right up and hooked him in and away he went!!

There were many rides but the other one I LOVED was Toy Story Mania! They had a special car and they just changed a few things around and then rolled him in and hooked him right in his chair! The gun came back in a special way and it was perfect for him to shoot and he never had to get out of the wheelchair. It was awesome!! The characters were absolutely great with him and he had the best trip ever!

If you are even thinking of going to Disney with someone in a wheelchair then let me tell you it will be a trip to remember!!
